Laser drilling on glass is a non-contact machining technology. Compared with traditional mechanical drilling, it has the advantages of high speed, high precision, good stability and high yield. In addition, laser drilling can also process round holes, square holes, taper holes and other special-shaped holes with high flexibility. It should be noted that glass is a fragile material, so it is necessary to control the laser power and processing speed during laser processing to avoid overheating and cracking.
The common application fields of laser glass drilling include photovoltaic industry and display industry, such as the processing of photovoltaic backplane glass to improve the performance and stability of photovoltaic modules, or the cutting and drilling of liquid crystal displays, OLED displays, etc. To improve the display effect and quality.
The common light source for laser glass drilling is nanosecond green light, which has low absorptivity in ordinary green glass or white glass, as shown in Figure 1. It belongs to "cold light source", which has low thermal impact on processing, effectively avoids thermal stress, and reduces the generation of broken edges and cracks.
Our company adopts the high-end adjustable short-pulse nanosecond laser with high-precision galvanometer and field lens to process from bottom to top according to the spiral drilling path. The laser passes through the glass and focuses on the lower surface of the glass, and the material is removed upward layer by layer from the bottom, which can achieve "high-precision" and "high-quality" glass drilling, as shown in Figure 2.
Figure 3-6 shows part of the test results, and the size of the upper and lower surface chipping edges is less than 100µm. In addition, by optimizing the process parameters, such as laser power, pulse frequency, pulse width, and scanning speed, a high aspect ratio via of approximately 10:1 can be realized.
